Imagine innovation that helps prevent machine breakdown and keep farmers safe. As an insurance company insuring the agribusiness industry, we like the sound of that. Thanks to Iowa Farmer Today, we can gleam a little insight into what the Internet of Things (IoT) is and how it impacts farms across the country.

So, what is it?

Major players in the agribusiness industry have leveraged IoT including John Deere and Case IH.  Now you can access your equipment’s diagnostics and location instantly from any device.  These devices will be able to prevent accidents or injuries before they happen.

Current Problem, Future Solution

One caveat to IoT is that you need reliable internet.  This is a challenge in some rural communities across the U.S.  A solution may be on the way with the New Deal Rural Broadband Act of 2017.  AT&T and Verizon have announced new rural broadband access programs and there is support by the current administration to propose $1 trillion in support of broadband access for rural America.
